Bayangdi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is at Bayangdi, Bowo Township, Muli, Sichuan. It was named by the No. 1 Regional Geological Survey Party of Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1977.
Lithology and Thickness
A suite of clastic rocks intercalated with volcanic formation. Lower part is dominated by gray thin- to thick-bedded feldspar-rich sandstone intercalated with black slate and phyllite. Middle part is composed of gray-green basalt intercalated with sandstone and volcanic breccia. Upper part consists of gray and dark-gray thin- to moderately thick-bedded pebbled feldspar-rich sandstone, clayey siltstone, gray-black slate and limestone, basalt, etc. Thickness greater than 1746.5 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable, faulted contact with the underlying Silurian System (Mihei Fm)
Upper contact
Disconformable contact with the overlying Permian System
Regional extent
Exposed only between Yangdi to Geluo in Muliba, Sichuan.

Fossils
Lower part is yields corals Yuanophyllum sp., Arachnolasma sp., Dibunophyllum tingi and Caninia sp. Contained in the limestone of Upper part are corals Neoclisiophyllum triangulatum, Thysanophyllum sp., etc.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as deltaic facies intercalated with basic volcanic eruption facies.
